Hi y’all,

I just stepped on the scale (at night, which is not one of my brightest ideas) and it scared the shit out of me! Pardon my French, but according to the scale I now weigh 103 kilograms! Last time I weighed myself the number I saw was 98,8. There is no need to say I am not behaving too well, I need to step up my game. I have been eating too many ice creams and chocolate treats and it needs to stop right now. So, I came up with a summer challenge that will help me to reach a lower weight.

The plan

  • Eat clean
  • Prepare a weekly menu every single Sunday, before the next week begins
  • Mealprep
  • Track points with the Weight Watchers ProPoints system
  • Workout at least 3 times a week
  • Quit drinking Diet Coke

I know I can do this but I have been cutting myself way too much slack lately. If I want to reach my goal weight I need to act now! You’ve all seen my progress pictures and know how unhappy I still am with how I look. But that’s going to change. Starting tomorrow…. (oops!)

Progress pictures – Then and now

Hi y’all!

Today’s post is quite a difficult one for me. I am going to show you my before- and during pictures! I started my weightloss journey on 13-06-2012, 13 months ago, at a local Weight Watchers meeting. I will tell you the whole ‘before’ story pretty soon but at the moment I just don’t know where to begin. Let’s just say that the main reason to start my weightloss journey was because I was fed up with being treated differently. Being overweight does not make me less than a normal, slender or fit person! I am a human being with feelings, and that should always come first. I wanted people to see me for who I am. And that’s where the journey began. Of course I also had other reasons to lose weight but they weren’t as important as being treated equally.

In the last 13 months I have experienced a lot of setbacks. And you know what? I did not let the setbacks define me. I did not stop trying. I simply made a u-turn and tried again. And harder this time. That’s the key. It’s not about how much you want to lose in how little time. You need to be in this for the long run. Do you want to lose 20 kg’s in 3 months? I wish you a whole lot of luck. You might be able to succeed but I can almost assure you that the pounds will creep back on in a heartbeat. I don’t care if it takes me three years to get to my goalweight. It’s better than being overweight for the rest of my life. And I will continue, no matter how many setbacks are ahead of me, I’ll keep going until I reach my goal.

My official Weight Watchers start weight was 121 kg’s. I think I weighed even more before then but I’m not too sure. I currently weigh around 98 kg’s but I haven’t weighed myself in a while. I know, I know… I am getting back on it, I promise!

I’ve picked out a couple of pics that scare the living shit out of me. Pardon my French but it’s the truth. I weighed around 116 kg’s in these pictures. The last three pictures are from this weekend. I’m not happy with how I look (hello flabby arms!) but it sure is an improvement. Are you ready for the pictures? ‘Cause I sure ain’t!

As you can see I used my bag to ‘cover up’ my stomach. How many of you do this too? I used to do this all the time. With my bag, a pillow, a blanket… whatever I could get my hands on! I sometimes catch myself doing it on days where I feel like the old me. But if you do this too, take a good look at that picture. Don’t I look weird? It draws so much more attention to that area than necessary. Seriously people, let’s stop covering up our flaws.

I can’t say I am very happy with how I look right now… I hoped I would have lost more weight by now. But I am proud of how far I’ve come. I have never, ever been able to keep going for such a long period of time. And I will reach my goals, I just don’t know when.

How to – Make a motivation board

If you need to lose more than 15 kg’s, keeping up your motivation can be quite a difficult challenge. At one point during your weightloss journey you will, most likely, lose your motivation and forget what you’re doing it for. A motivation board with inspiring quotes and pictures can help you to stay focused. I have one Pinterest board with all kinds of amazing quotes and pictures to help me keep going. But for me, that’s not enough. I need a constant reminder of my journey so I made two physical pinboards. One hangs in my room and is dedicated to a healthy lifestyle, being disciplined, etc. The other board hangs in the attic, thé place where I workout, and pushes me trough Insanity, 30 Day Shred and all that other craziness. Since it works so well for me I though you guys might be able to benefit from it as well.

So, what do you need to make your motivation board? That is totally up to you! You can start one on Pinterest, make a collage and us it as a screen saver or you can buy a pinboard/magnetboard and fill it up. It’s what I did and to tell you the truth it kinda makes me feel like a teenager again. Instead of hanging posters of Westlife and Hilary Duff on the wall I get all crafty with this healthy living madness.

There are millions things that you could hang on your board and you can make it as pretty (or ugly… I mean, who’s judging?) as you like. Just do whatever works for you! Here are a couple of ideas you could pin:

  • A workout schedule or challenge
  • A list with clean products (there are no excuses)
  • Your daily and/or weekly menu (abs are made in the kitchen after all)
  • Your weight goals
  • Inspiring quotes
  • Pictures of bodies which inspire you (I am obsessed with P!nk and how great she looks. Other faves are Gwen Stefani and Vanessa Hudgens)
  • Tickets or discount coupons for events/classes you would go to or take once you’ve reached a certain weight (the spa, hot yoga or perhaps a surfing camp)
  • A bathing suit, dress, jacket or anything you want to fit into (again) and feel comfortable in
  • If you are going to participate in a race or have something major to look forward to: make a little calendar or countdown list (or better yet, just use your race number!). Make sure you keep an eye on that important date! Time seems to fly by these days…

My pinboards are far from perfect and I tend to change them every once in while. I’ll keep you updated when I do. I’m sure I’ll get creative again very soon. Below you can find pictures of the motivation board which hangs in my room.

The image you see above was taken from a Dutch magine, Flow. It’s a quote from Paulo Coelho, an amazing writer. The quote says:

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end”

The two tickets you see hanging on the board are discount tickets for a spa. I can’t wait to go but I simply don’t feel very ready for it at the moment.

About the the other board which hangs in the attic… yeah, I’m not sure about this one… But it’s only fair to show you. My ultimate fitspiration is P!nk. Whenever I think about the video for ‘Try’ I simply want to move my (big) butt. And of course I decided to pin a workout schedule. Though I have to admit I didn’t really do anything with it. Ah well, you know what they say, right?
