Dewey’s Read-a-Thon

Hi y’all!

So, this is my very first blogpost. Yay for me! I worked like a maniac to get this blog up and running before Dewey’s Read-a-Thon is going to kick off and here it is. It’s not perfect yet, but it works for now. The main focus of this blog will lie on my weightloss journey which I see as my personal legend. The first (and last) time I participated in Dewey’s Read-a-Thon was last year. I decided to participate 30 minutes before it started and it was crazy. The book blogging community is so supporting, trust me, this is one of those weekends you are more than willing to take a few days off for. I have been looking forward to this day for many months now (though there is another edition in October but I wasn’t able to participate then) and I can’t believe it’s finally here.

During Dewey’s Read-a-Thon you read for 24 hours straight and share your progress via your blog, Goodreads account, Twitter, etc. This reading marathon is perfect for me because I need to catch up on my Goodreads reading challenge. Right now I am 8 books behind on my goal of reading 50 books in 2013. I hope this Read-a-Thon will help me get back on track.

My reading stack contains:

• The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling; the very first book I am going to read during this challenge. It’s a very short book which will make me feel as though I’ve accomplished something very early in the game.
• Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris; I know, I know! It isn’t even supposed to be in the stores yet! I can’t understand it either but this is the second time my local bookstore is selling the Sookie Stackhouse novels before the releasedate. I love the fact that I read the previous book during my last readathon.
• The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs; I read his other book “Drop Dead Healthy” a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. A.J. has got a great sense of humor and I love projects just as much as he does.
• Maar buiten is het feest by Arthur Japin; I am Dutch and I just know I will not be able to read in English when I have been awake for 20 hours. This book is going to be my life saver! This author is brilliant and I can recommend ‘In Lucia’s Eyes’ to everyone.
• Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl; part two of the Caster Chronicles.
• Online by Simone van der Vlught; another Dutch book and a really short one. It has around 60 pages and contains a few short stories.
• Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay; since I am a huge fan of the tv-show I feel obligated to read the books. I hope it won’t be too different from the show.
• The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris; I am almost done with this book so I am going to finish it during the Read-a-Thon. Great book if you want to become a member of the ‘new rich’.

Dewey’s Read-a-Thon starts at 2 pm for me, and since it’s almost 11 pm I am going to get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be crazy! I am going to try to stay awake for the entire 24 hours but I have no idea if I am capable of it.
